The newsletter I signed up for was the Pacer Center. The Pacer Center is an organization that focuses on training children and adults about technology amd how it can be used to help students with disabilities learn. Their mission is to give opportunities and to enhance the lives of children and young adults with learning disabilities. One part of the newsletter I read was about bullying. The month of October is National Bullying Prevention Month and there are 160,000 children who are afraid to attend school because they are living in fear. It is sad that a lot of children are teased, tormented and picked on because they are different. Another thing that was mentioned on the newsletter is that the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) celebrated their 20th anniversary in July.
The way that I see this can relate to what we have read this week is that there are some people who are bullied because of their religion or race. I think it is sad that now in the 21st century many children are still teased because of their race.

Thank you for sharing about this organization. I have not heard of it before and I think it will be a valuable resource to share with my colleagues and families I work with. Thanks, Again!!
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing. It is imperative to acknowledge that bully do happen. As a former teacher assistant, I witnessed how adults treated students (who are bullying others) as if they have control of the school. Once, the prinipcal informed that our student cannot be placed in regular classroom because he grew up being bullied by others. I pointed to a sign that was up on the wall "NO BULLY ALLOWED." Naturally, the prinicpal gulped and approved the decision.
ReplyDeleteIt is not just students/children, but adults who allow it to happen repeatedly.
I like the comments you made about bullying. Bullying is a huge issue in today's schools; more so than it ever has been due to the growing use of technology among students. There are a lot of children who do not enjoy attending school because of the bullying they endure. However, it's not only just because children are "different." Often times, bullying will stem from jealousy and insecurity. A very dear friend of mine lost her 12 year old daughter to suicide this fall as a result of constant bullying. She was a beautiful, popular girl who was tormented by other girls because she was pretty and well-liked. What do you think is our responsibility as educators? Did the resource you mentioned offer any advice on how to deal with such a vicious cycle?
ReplyDeleteGreat post!

Bullying needs to be taken seriously. Many of our children become injured physically and emotional due to others being rude.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing this site and the information from it. I knew bullying is becoming a big issue but did not realize that so many children are afraid to attend school. I like the site you chose because it helps those with disabilities. There aren't many things out for people with disabilities.
ReplyDeleteVery interesting post. My daughter now have some girls at her school always messing with her. I had a talk with the principal just a couple of days ago,and I told him if it did not stop, I was going to consider it as bullying. When your child is smart and love to go to school, you need nothing or no one to intefere with their education.
ReplyDeleteYour post this week was very interesting. I do agree with what you write and I am glad there is a website available that talk about and points out the severity of bullying. I also found your post interesting because I have never heard of the organization. However, technology is an important part of our society but they can also be challenging. Having a resource available that can help navigate and train adults and children in how to utilize technology resources is an asset. Thanks for sharing this website with us.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing this resource. I had not heard of this organization before.
ReplyDeleteI think majority of those in the education field worry about bullying and the affects that is has on children. Today’s technology is amazing with the endless possibilities that it presents to us but with that also comes areas of concern. I find it frightening how easily a child can be taken advantage of through our modern day technology.
